We collect as little as we can, use it only to run Motolist, and never sell it. This policy follows the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.
Buyers: your name, email, phone number and the message you send when you enquire about a car. If you tell us what car you are looking for, we keep that request and your email so we can contact you when a matching car comes up. Sellers: the same, plus details and photos of the car you want listed, your chosen package and add ons, and the ownership and service documents we sight before a listing goes live.
Everyone: standard site analytics such as pages viewed, device type and approximate region. We do not use advertising trackers on this site.
To pass your enquiry to the owner of the car you asked about. To quote, shoot and publish a listing for a seller. To answer support questions and keep a record if a dispute comes up. To send you the emails you have asked for, such as new listing alerts.
When you enquire about a car, the owner receives your name, contact details and message so they can reply. That is the point of the enquiry, and it is the only reason we pass your details on. We do not sell, rent or trade personal information to anyone, and we do not resell leads.
Form submissions travel over an encrypted connection and are handled by Cloudflare, which runs the bot check on our forms and stores submissions for us. Our own workflow tools then process each submission to notify us and route it to the right place, and an email provider is used where we email you. These providers, along with our hosting and analytics providers, process data on our behalf under their own privacy terms. Some of them store data outside New Zealand.
Enquiries are kept for twelve months after the car sells or is withdrawn, for support and dispute purposes, then deleted. Seller documents are deleted once the listing ends unless you ask us to keep them for a future listing. Analytics is aggregated and does not identify you.
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, correct it, or have it deleted. Email motolistnz@gmail.com and we will respond within twenty working days, usually much faster. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.
Your saved cars, theme choice, form drafts and enquiry history are stored in your own browser, not on our servers. Clearing your browser data removes them.
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. Material changes will be flagged on the site for thirty days.
